My emotional state is the driving factor behind the artwork that I make. Much of my work is expressionistic portraiture. I attempt to capture how I feel about a person, or about myself, and let that emotional climate dictate the piece.
My favorite thing about figural work is that moment when the viewer recognizes the human likeness in a piece. I like work that relates, unsettles, and captures viewers in an empathetic way.
I try, always, to be aware of the traditions of artists who have come before me while also building from what I know of life in Oklahoma.
